IBER Africa's 575kW rooftop solar installation represents one of our most ambitious and successful commercial projects. This case study demonstrates how large-scale solar can transform industrial operations while delivering impressive financial returns.
IBER Africa, a leading manufacturing company in Kenya, faced escalating electricity costs and frequent power interruptions that disrupted production. Their monthly electricity bills exceeded KSh 2.5 million, with significant additional costs from diesel generators during outages.
After a comprehensive energy audit, we designed a 575kW grid-tied solar system optimized for their production schedule. The system includes 1,440 high-efficiency solar panels installed across three rooftop sections, paired with six commercial inverters rated for high industrial loads.
The installation presented unique challenges. The existing roof structure required reinforcement to support the additional weight. Complex electrical integration was needed to sync with existing generators and grid connection. Production schedules meant installation had to occur during limited shutdown windows.
Our team completed the project in 8 weeks through meticulous planning and coordination. Structural engineers conducted detailed load analysis and implemented targeted reinforcements. Electrical work occurred during planned maintenance windows to minimize disruption. Rigorous safety protocols protected both workers and ongoing operations.
The results exceeded expectations. The system generates an average of 2,875 kWh daily, covering 68% of IBER Africa's daytime energy needs. Annual electricity cost savings total approximately KSh 18 million. The 3.2-year payback period provides excellent ROI. Carbon emissions reduced by 420 tons annually.
Beyond financial benefits, the installation improved operational resilience. Reduced dependency on unreliable grid power means fewer production disruptions. Lower generator usage extends equipment life and reduces maintenance costs. The company's sustainability profile strengthens their market position with environmentally conscious clients.
IBER Africa's management reports that the solar system has become a strategic asset. The predictable energy costs aid financial planning, while the environmental benefits align with their corporate sustainability goals. The project demonstrates that large-scale solar is not just environmentally responsible but financially strategic.
