Solar Water Pumping Systems
Water for farms, homes and communities, pumped by the sun.
Pumping water with diesel or grid electricity is a constant cost — and a problem when fuel runs out or the power goes. Solar water pumps run directly from solar panels, moving water from boreholes, wells, rivers or dams into tanks and irrigation systems during the day, when the sun is strongest.
Our Solar Water Pumping System (Waterbox) is designed for agricultural, residential and commercial water supply. We size the pump and solar array to the depth of your water source, how far and how high the water has to travel, and how much you need each day.
Ideal for
- Farms and irrigation schemes
- Homes and estates with boreholes
- Livestock watering
- Community water projects, schools and institutions
What's included
- Source & demand assessment: Water source depth and yield, daily volume needed, and how far it must be pumped.
- Pump & array sizing: The right pump and number of panels for your water needs.
- Submersible or surface pumps: Submersible pumps for boreholes and wells, surface pumps for rivers, dams and tanks.
- Storage design: An elevated tank stores water pumped in sunny hours for use at any time.
- Controls & protection: Dry-run protection and level controls that stop the pump when the tank is full.
- Installation & aftercare: Complete installation, testing and support.
How it works
- Assessment: We study your water source and how much water you need.
- Design & proposal: Pump, array and storage design with costs.
- Installation: Pump, panels, controller and pipework installed.
- Commissioning: Testing flow and protection, then handover.
- Support: Servicing and help when you need it.
Benefits
- No fuel costs: Once installed, the sun powers your pumping.
- Low maintenance: No generator to service, refuel or repair.
- Works off-grid: Pump water wherever the sun shines, with no grid connection needed.
- Reliable supply: Stored water keeps flowing through the night and on duller days.
Frequently asked questions
Does a solar pump need batteries?
Usually not. Most solar pumps run directly from the panels during the day and fill a storage tank, which supplies water at night. Batteries can be added if you need to pump after dark.
How deep can a solar pump draw water from?
Solar pumps are available for everything from shallow wells to deep boreholes. We choose the pump from your source's depth and yield and how much water you need.
What about cloudy days?
Pumping slows when it's cloudy. We size the array and tank so you have enough stored water to ride through less sunny days.
